Ice Bumper Cars Coming to Snowmass

Soon residents and visitors will be able to slip, slide and bump their way around The Rink in Snowmass Base Village with the arrival of 16 ice bumper cars on Dec. 18.

The cars, which are propelled via joy sticks (similar to video games), will be available from Dec. 18 to January 2, 2020. The cars will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from 5 to 7 p.m. daily and cost $20 for 10 minutes per rider. Private group reservations will be available between 9 and 11 a.m. daily and cost $400 for 30 minutes for up to16 riders. Ages five years old and older are allowed to ride solo while children under five will be able to ride on an adult’s lap.

Collective Snowmass curator Sara Halferty said the ice bumper cars will provide a new interactive activity that all ages, from young children to grandparents, will enjoy. She said Base Village and The Collective will be the place to be this winter with the unveiling of the Snowmass Game Lounge, mix6, MoxiBar, King Yoga, Jus, Straightline Studio, Eye Pieces, the Collective Art Wall and pop-up retailers, as well as the return of events and activities such as ice skating, curling, bingo, theater, comedy, presentations with the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies and more.

“We’re so excited to offer another new activity through the holiday season in Base Village while we celebrate the openings of new businesses and restaurants,” Halferty said. “The ice bumper cars should be a sight to see as we’ve heard kids are much better at bumping around the ice versus adults due to their familiarity with video games. It will be a laugh fest on ice.”

Ice Bumper Cars International, based in Steamboat Springs, Colo., designs the cars which are then manufactured in Golden, Colo. The cars are backed with a 24-volt power system that propels two rubber wheels, which helps gain traction on the ice without causing any damage to the ice. To allow for safe bumping, each car has a large inner tube wrapped around the control system where the driver sits and operates the bumper car.
